Work Experience in Building Management Systems

We believe that offering opportunities for people to get a taste of what a career in Building Management Systems (BEMS) is truly like is essential for the future of our industry. 

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Lewis, the nephew of one of our dedicated North East Support Engineers, Paul Taylor, for a week of work experience. It was a wonderful opportunity to inspire the next generation and give a first-hand look at the interesting and important work we do.

A Week of Hands-On Learning

From July 14th to 18th, Lewis joined Paul on a variety of fascinating sites across the North East. This wasn't a week spent watching from the sidelines; Lewis was given a genuine, hands-on experience in the world of building automation. He was able to get up close and personal with the technology that makes large buildings operate efficiently and comfortably.

During his time with us, Lewis gained insights into a wide range of tasks and technologies. 

He spent time learning about the software that powers BEMS, seeing how it acts as the central intelligence of a building, constantly monitoring and controlling mechanical and electrical equipment. He observed how systems control heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), ensuring that occupants are comfortable throughout the building. He also got to see energy monitoring systems in action, which are vital for tracking consumption and identifying areas for improvement. 

To top it all off, Lewis was even given the chance to do some basic wiring, a foundational skill in our field. This blend of practical and technical learning gave him a well-rounded introduction to the BEMS industry.
