SPOTLIGHT ON…

Tim Peperell

Sales Manager (Major Projects)
BMSI

What three words would you use to describe your role at BMSI?

Challenging

Rewarding

Diverse

What does a typical day look like for you at BMSI?

If I haven’t got an early meeting, I tend to start the day with my family. Our two children (2 & 4yrs) are a pretty good 6:30 alarm clock, and breakfast with them usually brings some laughable debates!

There is no such thing as ‘typical’ at BMSI, no two clients, meetings or site visits are ever the same.

Equally, no two phone calls, enquiries or tenders are the same – so, it’s safe to say that it’s rarely boring here!

If you could switch jobs with someone at BMSI, who would it be?

No thanks -I am just fine where I am!

What are your biggest professional challenges?

Sometimes it’s hard to change peoples attitude toward the BMS industry, i.e. convincing people that I/we/BMSI are, as a company, doing the right thing.

There are a lot of unscrupulous sales individuals out there, I like to differentiate myself from those as much as possible and reassure people that what we offer can add untold, further value to a project.

What is the worst part of your job?

Not hard to think about this as a salesman, but loosing…….yep definitely loosing.

Sometimes you can spend over a year, or more – from designing a job to it coming to fruition – and to then not be able to deliver it can be painful.  Although, on a lighter note I do believe that I don’t ‘lose’ but I ‘learn’.

Which employee gives you the most help in your role?

I rely on many of our team to fulfil my role, but I have been working closer than ever with our design and projects team in trying to push the technical boundary’s.

What would you change at BMSI?

Faster implementation of new technology – although we are heading in the right direction and have a very exciting few years ahead.

What will be the best thing about working at BMSI in 2018?

Our understanding of our business and governance is better than ever, which has aided us all. But, mostly working with people who really care about what they are doing is the best thing about working at BMSI.

What advice would you give to new entrants into the company?

Welcome! Be yourself, don’t be silent, and question the norm – BMSI has a wealth of knowledge, experience and some very good listeners, and collectively we embrace change!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Food! So, to keep a good balance I cycle, which is a big passion of mine!

I’m an outdoors type generally; as are the family, and we still love windsurfing/kitesurfing, although it tends to be on holidays now.

…and finally, what’s your Monday morning motto to get you through the week?

I have no problem getting through the week! Sometime it’s the weekends that are a struggle!
