BMSI stay right on target at Western Automation away day

Hosted by Western Automation, a trading division of UL Electric Ltd, BMSI team members attended a Clay Shooting Day last month. The event was a hugely successful opportunity to build and solidify valuable relationships while also taking the time to socialise, relax – and most importantly – have fun!

BMSI would like to thank Western Automation for organising the event, bringing everyone together and giving the team a well-earned, enjoyable day out. Special thanks also to Dave Geary, Company Key Account Manager at Western Automation, who helped ensure festivities went without a hitch.

Taking place at, Sporting Targets (located in Bedford) the venue could not have been a better environment for a customer day-out and we’d especially like to thank John Hatog Trainer at Sporting Targets for helping us stay (mainly) on target.

Speaking on behalf of BMSI attendees, Amarinder Grewal, (insert job title) added:

“A superbly enjoyable day was had by all – many thanks to Western Automation for hosting us and to Sporting Targets for providing the top-class venue. A great day from start to finish, with excellent food and outstanding customer service. We look forward to the next one!”

BMSI Southern Region support UK Defence estate via VINCI’s MoD contract

Covering multiple Ministry of Defence sites, BMSI continues to grow its Support and PPM contract with new customer, VINCI Facilities.

After being awarded one of four regional contracts to manage the MoD Built Estate, VINCI has maintained and expanded BMSI’s Support and PPM contract, growing the portfolio of estates that BMSI Southern currently look after. Previously working with Amey Defence, BMSI have worked on this project for over 10 years, covering several prestigious RAF, Army and Military bases across the South of England.

Awarded the FDIS (Future Defence Infrastructure Services) contract as part of 3-year deal with VINCI Facilities, and supported through the defence supply chain, BMSI’s core contract will help improve the service delivered for service men and women throughout the UK. Plus, with VINCI Facilities set to provide circa £1.1Bn worth of FM services in the South East of England to the MoD for the next seven years, BMSI solidifies its role in providing essential, intelligent preventative maintenance and modernisation of the MoD’s buildings, facilities and infrastructure.

Speaking on behalf of the entire £1.6 billion investment initiative to upgrade the UK Defence estate, Minister for Defence Procurement Jeremy Quinn said:

“Helping to modernise and transform the Defence estate, the programme will also support thousands of jobs across the UK.”

Not only that, but the new South East region contract, won by VINCI Facilities, has a structure rooted in contributing to the better development of operational capability and in taking a more collaborative approach to the management of the MoD’s Built Estate.

Regional Manager of BMSI’s Southern Division, Mathew Doo, commented:

“With a now larger overall contract that comprises 23 sites in total, we’re delighted to be extending our work across a number of high-profile, prestigious MoD sites alongside our new customer VINCI Facilities.

Once again, this a great opportunity for BMSI and our Southern Region team to demonstrate our advanced capabilities, knowledge and expertise that has enabled us to drive efficiencies for a number of private and public sector customers throughout the UK.”

Did you know that BMSI offer nation-wide support?

One of the few solutions providers in the UK to over full national coverage across both public and private enterprise, BMSI currently has over 1,154 live active projects across the UK.

Operating as an industry leader in the BeMS sector for over 30 years, BMSI is utilising technological innovation to make buildings smarter, more efficient, and ultimately, more sustainable.

What’s more, BMSI’s remote technical centre (aptly named MediCentre) appears to be the new blueprint for a support service that provides customers with a 360 view – and remote control – over their buildings, as well as carry out proactive interventions based on real-time issues remotely. Not only does this new era of energy management better protect staff, but it also allows businesses to better achieve their environmental goals and helps reduce energy costs in the process.

Delivering services and support packages for schools, prisons, hospitals, police, fire and rescue services, and MoD installations in the public sector, as well as across high-profile private enterprise, BMSI’s innovations can meet a client’s individual needs. Be that installation of an initial SMART solution all the way through to a managed service, all with a real focus on making a building energy efficient in real-time.

Learn more by taking a look at some of our latest case studies. Here you’ll see why Hampshire County Council are especially impressed by BMSI’s MEDIC software. Or, how implementing a Smart Building’s solution enabled 40 Spring Gardens [hyperlink to case study] to deliver a 20% utility year-on-year saving.

BMSI’s Management Development Programme kicks off for 2022

Earlier this month, BMSI hosted the first module of our 2022 Management Development Programme (MDP 2022). Participating in the programme were a select number of high-performing employees from across our eight regional locations who were chosen to develop their ideas on the future of BMSI.

Hosted by Denis Poole, a long-time friend and colleague of BMSI, the programme is designed to equip an invited group of hi-potential employees with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to be an effective manager in the modern workplace.

Speaking on the value provided by the programme, BMSI HR Manager, Paul Bredo commented:

“Working in a commercial environment as we do, the challenges that we are often confronted with on a daily basis can be quite daunting. But, with an understanding of how best we can overcome these challenges by learning about ourselves, understanding how we can get others to perform to the best of their abilities and gaining an awareness of the policies and procedures that we adhere to here at BMSI – we believe that the participants of MDP 2022 will benefit significantly from what they will discover over the coming months.”

MDP 2022 will conclude in December when the participants will be expected to present their vision on how they believe the business can be improved to BMSI’s senior management team. Not only is MDP 2022 an investment in the people attending the programme, but an investment in the future of BMSI as a whole.

BMSI wishes a happy retirement, and fond farewell, to two valued team members

Last month, BMSI said goodbye to John Mogg and Chris Mooney from BMSI’s Wales & South West Region who have retired from the company after a joint 30 plus years in the BMS industry.

With BMSI for over 8 years, John leaves the industry with 33 years of experience. Including a tenure at Satchwell/Schneider before moving on to BMSI, John has an impressive track record as well-respected Service Engineer working across a variety of prestigious and high-profile projects. Similarly, Chris retires with 31 years’ experience under his belt, again with Satchwell/Schneider before working with BMSI for the past 5 years as a Service Engineer on some of the company’s biggest and most complex projects.

Enjoying retirements drinks with the team in Cardiff last month, BMSI Regional Manager for Wales & South West, Wayne Chilcott, was keen to wish the duo a fond farewell:

“It was a pleasure to give the guys a great send-off in Cardiff last month. It was a great way to sign off on years of dedicated, excellent service and reminisce on two careers very well spent. On behalf of the entire team, I’d like to wish both John and Chris a very happy, healthy and long retirement and no doubt we’ll be catching up again with them soon over a beer or two.”

Last month, BMSI hosted the final instalment of our 2020 Management Development Programme at The Midland Hotel in Manchester. Participating in the programme were a select number of high-performing employees from across our eight regional locations who were chosen to present their ideas on the future of BMSI.

Starting in February 2020 and with a delay of almost 20 months, BMSI’s Management Development Programme consisted of five management learning modules and was conducted by the legendary building controls guru, Denis Poole.

BMSI’s MD, John Axten, was keen to extoll the positive impact that the programme has had on the business for 2022 and offered this insight:

“The event last Thursday was the culmination of a management training course that began back in February 2020 but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Great credit goes to those who took part in the Development Programme, all of whom, despite the challenges that they were up against, still managed to deliver an exciting vision for the future of BMSI. This included how to generate more business and improve staff retention – all of which was received with great enthusiasm by the board.”
