BMSI Secure BMS Contract for Iconic Scalpel building

BMSI have secured the ongoing support of the BMS and EMS at The Scalpel; the newest addition to the most distinguished skyline in the city.

This iconic building, located at 52 Lime Street, was a prestigious win for the BMSI major projects team, and now, through the hard work of our support team and innovative MediCentre technology, we are delighted to have secured a 3 year contract with CBRE for the project.

BMSI National Support Sales Manager, Jen Johnson, has been working hard on bringing the contract into fruition and commented:

“We have been pushing the boundaries with CBRE, specifically over the past 9 months, to engage with our MediCentre technology, attending speed networking, innovation days and generally showing them the benefits of our new range of solutions – and it is great to see that this hard work has really paid off.

The Scalpel is an extensive site with a staggering 952 submeters throughout! And we have utilised a mixture of weekly engineer visits, proactive energy management via Medic and reactive remote support to create a support solution meeting all of the clients requirements. This is a fantastic project to work on and we’re very much looking forward to really showing off with what we can deliver on it.”

Standing at 40 storey’s high, the Atlas Building makes up the residential part of 145 City Road and is already dominating the ever-expanding skyline that sits close to Old Street’s ‘Silicone Roundabout’. The Atlas Building epitomises inner-city luxury-living and residents’ amenities incorporated within the scheme include a swimming pool, gym, spa, cinema and residents’ lounge.

BMSI will provide a full trend BMS and Energy monitoring system, mainly in the energy centre over the basement levels of the building, but will also have 30 no-control panels which will provide and monitor services over the entire site.

Tim Peperell, who was integral in the acquisition process for The Atlas Building contract, commented:

“This is a fantastic development that BMSI are proud to be involved with. BMSI MD Speaks on Carillion Collapse

BMSI Managing Director, John Axten, has given his verdict on the Governments lack of clarity concerning Carillion’s downfall and the catastrophic impact that this could have on the construction industry.

Interviewed by Siobhan Kennedy of Channel 4 news last night, John spoke of his dismay at the actions of the Government in the wake of the fallout. BMSI, like many other small to middle sized sub-contractors, had assumed that given the Governments apparent confidence and involvement with many of Carillion’s public sector contracts, that they would be protected in an event such as this, an assumption that has proved to be disappointingly inaccurate.

Elaborating on his comments to Channel 4 last night, John commented:

“The news announcing Carillion’s collapse was a shock to us all – especially given the fact that the Government were still issuing public sector contracts to the company as recently as the start of January – but the reassurances that were issued from Westminster last week confirming that the Government would step in to resolve outstanding payments provided some relief at least for companies such as BMSI.

Unfortunately, these proclamations have proved false and we are looking at the prospect of a stack of unpaid bills for several contracts carried out before the 15th January 2018. What this looks like for BMSI is £240,000 in lost revenue, not to mention the staggering 1 billion that will be lost across Carillion’s 30,000 other suppliers. The ripple effects from this, coupled with the Governments continued resistance to provide certainty on the issue, will have devastating effects over the coming 3-4 months which could result in further bankruptcies across the wider industry. That being said, BMSI are in a fortunate position – we have an extremely healthy balance sheet and can ride out this particular storm – but for other companies, the situation is simply not good enough and the industry deserves better.”

John Axten has been Managing Director at BMSI for over 16 years and is an experienced and respected commercial quantity surveyor with unparalleled industry experience. BMSI team up with Mace to tackle ‘The Can of Ham’

BMSI is delighted to be working with Mace on the iconic 70 St Mary’s Axe building, commonly known as ‘The Can of Ham.’

The building comprises 24 floors and includes flexible, modern office space – organised around a central core – with retail outlets and accommodation being found at the ground level of the building. This project is one of many large-scale iconic office buildings in the City of London that BMSI have been involved in in recent times, a trend that looks set to continue for the year ahead as additional high-profile contracts roll in throughout 2018.

BMSI Design Engineer, Ian Tatton, who is working on the project, commented: “This is the perfect venture for BMSI to be involved in and marks the start of a very busy 18 months ahead for the team. The distinctive ‘can’ shape of 70 St Mary’s Axe has been developed with low energy measures in mind, such as borehole thermal energy storage and energy piles, that result in a design with very low carbon emissions. This innovative energy-saving design makes this a particularly interesting undertaking for BMSI and one that we’re very proud to be involved in – and by working alongside Mace, we’re confident of delivering on yet another high-profile contract in 2018 and beyond.”

BMSI make moves with brand new Remote Monitoring Centre in the North of England

BMSI is delighted to announce the re-location of its North of England office to a fantastic new facility in Cheshire.

This move comes as part of BMSI’s new initiative to acquire its own Remote Monitoring Centre which will now be housed at Daresbury Park in Cheshire, an accessible location that is located close to the M56, just south of Warrington.

Overseeing the move to the new Centre, and taking on the role of Manager at the facility, is long-serving BMSI employee, Steven Culshaw, who has spent the last 9 years based in the company’s North-West region as a support engineer.

Steve, who is thrilled to be taking on the project and is enthusiastic for the year ahead at Daresbury Park, commented:

“It’s all systems go for BMSI in 2018, which is especially true for all of us involved in the re-location to Daresbury Park. Our aim is to make our Remote Service Centre an integral part of our Support Offering, with both energy and operations in mind – something which will no doubt bring added value to all of our customers and prospects. Our target date for a full transfer of services will be Monday 5th February, and during this period we will ensure a seamless transition for customers who will enjoy no disruption in their service.

Now that the new year is upon us and we are moving ever closer to the move, I am very much looking forward to working with the North West regions and taking the time to fully understand the present remote customer service levels and expectations that are already in place. We are re-branding the centre and including new service levels and pricing, something which we will endeavour to provide more information on in the very near future, so watch this space!”
